Phuket /Island/
The island of Phuket (pronounce: Puket) lies off the West coast of Southern Thailand in the Andaman Sea, approximately 900km /560 miles/ from Bangkok. Phuket is the largest island of Thailand with size of about 540 square km /210 square miles/ and in size is like Singapore. Phuket with its spectacular beauty, crystal clear waters, white sandy beaches, unique landscape, waterfalls, jungles, stunning tropical sunsets and many more attractions is a world’s top destination for tourism.
The name Phuket comes from a Malay word bukit which means “hill” as there are many hills on the island. The whole population of Phuket Island is about 240,000 people of which 60,000 are inhabitants of Phuket town – the main town of the island. Having an international airport Phuket is within easy reach from Bangkok - the flight is about an hour and half. Even some airlines have direct flights from their destinations. The best time to visit Phuket is during the cool /warm/ season from November to February. Phuket offers infinite varieties for activities – all kinds of water sports, hill climbing, trekking, walking or just relaxing – Phuket is a must-see place in Thailand.
