Koh Samui /Island/
Koh Samui is an island located in the Gulf of Thailand in South China Sea. It is a district of Changwat Suratthani province. Koh Samui has size of 250 square km /about 100 square miles/ and is about 700 km /440 miles/ from Bangkok. Koh Samui has a population of about 50,000 people and the main town is Nathon. In the early ages the major source of income has been fishing and coconuts plantations but now it is tourism mainly. Again like all Thai islands Koh Samui has unique landscape and is another great destination of Thailand providing everything for a vacation.
In the 1970s Koh Samui was a favourite destination for backpackers but now it is a place for all kinds of tourism and holidays. Surrounded by more than sixty picturesque islands some of which very small and not inhabited Koh Samui is a tropical paradise for everybody.
