Sukhothai
Sukhothai city is the capital city of Sukhothai province. Literally meaning “Dawn of Happiness” Sukhothai is located 430 km /270 miles/ North of Bangkok and 300 /190 miles/ South of Chiang Mai and lies on the valley of the Yom River. The province covers about 6,590 square km /2,570 square miles/ and is divided into 9 distincts.
The major attractions apart from The Ramkhamhaeng National Park and Si Satchanalai Historical Park are connected with Sukhothai’s historical heritage. The perfectly restored monuments and temples in Sukhothai Historical Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site are obligatory to visit. The ancient city of Sukhothai served as a capital of the Khmer Empire in 1238. Ruins of royal palaces, Buddhist temples, city gates and walls and many other historical items are among the things which fulfill the history-seekers curiosity.
