Satun
Satun is one of the Southermost provinces in Thailand. It is facing the Andaman Sea on the west and to the South it is bordering Malaysia. 80% of the 260,000 people living there are Muslims. The province of Satun covers an area of about 2,500 square km /1,000 square miles/. The capital city is also called Satun. Located some 1000 km /600 miles/ from Bangkok, Satun has about 80 km of shoreline. The province of Satun also includes about 100 islands. The name Satun comes from Malay word “setul” meaning mangosteen tree.
Satun is another attractive destination to visit. In Satun you can find one of the best natural views in the world – aqua blue waters engraving the white sand and surrounded by forest, or the unique underwater peaks, paradise coves, waterfalls, jungle and mangrove swamps suitable for all kind of interests. In addition there is plenty of wildlife including numerous birds and monkeys, as well as green turtles, dolphins, dugong, exotic birds. The province actually has three national parks with all these beauties included - Tarutao Marine National Park which is the first national marine park established in 1974 and consisting of about 50 islands; Thale Ban National Park; Phetra Islands National Park. Or you can enjoy the beauty of Yaroey Waterfalls or Beautiful Stone Island. For sure visiting Satun you won’t regret it, on the contrary you will be planing your next visit there.
