Nong Khai

Nong Khai province is located in the valley of the Mekong river, Northeast of Bangkok and some 600 km /370 miles/. To the north the province is bordering with Laos. The whole area covered by the province is about 7,330 square miles /2,800 square miles/. The capital city is Nong Khai which lies on the west bank of the Mekong river, situated just 20 km from Vientiane, the capital of Laos. You can go to Vientiane through the 1,200 metres long Thai–Lao Friendship Bridge.

The province of Nong Khai provides natural scenery comprising forests and beautiful landscapes. Major attractions in Nong Khai are: Phu Wua Wildlife Reserve with variety of wildlife and many waterfalls dirung the rainy season; Wat Khaeng /also known as Sala Kaew Ku/ – a temple located 5 km from Nong Khai city offering a lot of statues and images put among the forest, including statue of Buddha, Shiva and Vishnu; The Sadet Market – this is actually the main pier on this area of Mekong River, also known as the ‘Indochina Market’ because of trading with local goods and you can have souvenirs from the region. Nong Khai is a good destination for historical tourism concerning Thai-Lao cultural diversity.
