Kanchanaburi
Kanchanaburi with population of 54,000 people is capital of the province Kanchanaburi. It is located in west Thailand some 100 km /60 miles/ West of Bangkok. Kanchanaburi is located at the confluence of the rivers Kwai Noi and Kwai Yai. The city is mostly popular with historical places from the World War 2 – Bridge on the River Kwai /this bridge was built in 1942 by Japanese prisoners/; Thailand-Burma Railway Museum.
The prevailing landscape of Kanchanaburi is mountainous and surrounded by dense jungles perfect for adventure outgoing. Another interesting and gaining popularity among backpackers is hiking. As there are some national parks like Chaloem Rattanakosin National Park, Khaoen Sri Nakarin National Park and few more. Also the Erawan waterfalls and Erawan National park is one of the biggest attractions in Kanchanaburi. Thungyai Naresuan Wildlife Sanctuary is listed in the UNESCO world heritage list.
