Chumpon
Chumpon province is situated South from Bangkok some 450 km /280 miles/ away. Chumpon province is considered as the "Gateway to the South" as it is a narrow landbridge connecting Thailand and Malay peninsula. To the East it borders with Gulf of Thailand and to the Northwest with Myanmar. The capital city of Chumpon is also called Chumpon which has about 34,000 inhabitants. The main industry is fishing and coffee plantations. The area is also attractive because it is known as a "social meeting place" because in the past it was a battlefield for in struggles with Burma for possession and a Japanese invasion during the World War II.
The province is mostly known with its islands which are more than 40 providing great scuba-diving opportunities. Most of the islands are rarely visited with unspoiled nature ideal to explore. This is the place where you catch the ferry for the world renowned island of Koh Tao – the divers paradise. Another attraction for nature-lovers is Mu Ko Chumphon National Park offering great picturesque landscapes, waterfalls, caves and rich natural resources like limestone and mangrove forests and great variety of flora and fauna.
