Ayutthaya

Ayutthaya /or Phra Nakhon Si Ayotthaya/ was the ancient capital of Siam during middle ages. Ayutthaya is located in central Thailand some 85 km /50 miles/ from Bangkok and is the capital of Ayotthaya province. The city is located at the junction of three rivers - Chao Phraya, Lopburi and Pa Sak. The old city lies on a small island formed by the three rivers. The city of Ayutthaya was founded in 1350. The ancient city of Ayotthaya was two times destroyed and rebuilt after that.

Nowadays visiting Ayutthaya is strongly obligatory. In the city of Ayotthaya there are 3 cultures mixed together – Khmer, Hindu and Thai – which easily can be spotted by the architectural style of the buildings. The ancient ruins are perfectly preserved with all the forts and palaces of the ancient kings. The old city is actually The Ayutthaya Historical Park and is a UNESCO World Heritage Park. A visit to Ayothaya will bring you back in the time and make you feel all the spirit of Ancient Siam. Every-day trips run from Bangkok.
