Ayutthaya /or Phra Nakhon Si Ayotthaya/ was the ancient capital of Siam during middle ages. Ayutthaya is located in central Thailand some 85 km /50 miles/ from Bangkok and is the capital of Ayotthaya province. The city is located at the junction of three rivers - Chao Phraya, Lopburi and Pa Sak. The old city lies on a small island formed by the three rivers. The city of Ayutthaya was founded in 1350. The ancient city of Ayotthaya was two times destroyed and rebuilt after that.
Nowadays visiting Ayutthaya is strongly obligatory.
