Chiang Mai

Chiang Mai is situated some 800 km /500 miles/ North of Bangkok and is the second largest city in Thailand after Bangkok. Chiang Mai is the capital of Chiang Mai province with population of about 1,700,000 of which about 700,000 are in the city. The city of Chiang Mai was founded in 1296 and served as a capital of the Kingdom of Lanna. Chiang Mai has very rich cultural, historical and spiritual heritage. There are over 300 wats /temples/ with the Doi Suthep – the holiest wat in Thailand providing some spectacular views of the city. The city of Chiang Mai is located in fertile land in the valley that extends from the base of Suthep Mountain /the highest in Thailand/ to the world known river of Ping.

The city of Chiang Mai offers thousands of different categories of hotels, restaurants, bars, food, sports, entertainment and many more. Chiang Mai is a cosmopolitan city growing rapidly and competing Bangkok. Some people think that the only thing missing in Chiang Mai is the sea but when you enter the city you even will not think of the sea as there are many other activities for doing.
